What’s Cooking was born from a quiet, powerful moment in my mother’s kitchen in Jordan. I had returned home after years in Florida, and found her gently folding vine leaves for warak enab, just as her mother had taught her, and her grandmother before that. The scent of cinnamon, olive oil, and slow-cooked lamb filled the air and with it came a realization: these traditions, carried in hands and hearts, are disappearing.
In today’s world, global cities offer convenience at the tap of a screen, but much of what makes food truly meaningful is missing. Dishes like mansaf served with love at family gatherings, or fresh za’atar baked into warm bread at dawn, remain hidden behind apartment doors, unseen, unshared, and slowly forgotten.
We created What’s Cooking to change that. To reconnect people with the richness of authentic home cooking, from the kitchens of Amman to the neighborhoods of Kolkata. Behind every meal is a story, a memory, a culture passed down with care. And by sharing them, we keep those traditions alive.
